The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit on Tuesday overturned a lower court order that blocked use of Perplexity’s artificial intelligence agent on Amazon’s website, delivering a win for the start-up. The appeals court stated, “[T]he CFAA contemplates access by a person,” referring to the federal Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. “However advanced the [AI] Assistant currently is, it is a tool, not a person for statutory purposes.” The ruling was reported on August 05, 2026 at 04:24 PM.
