London-based Verge reporter Robert Hart covered the story of Paul Conyngham, an Australian tech entrepreneur who used ChatGPT, Grok, and other AI tools to craft a personalized cancer vaccine for his dog, Rosie, a Staffordshire bull terrier-Shar Pei mix. Conyngham has now launched a startup called Gamgee to offer “personalised mRNA cancer vaccines for dogs,” with ambitions extending to other diseases and species, including humans. Gamgee’s website promises to harness AI and genetics for personalized treatments. Conyngham, who stresses he is “not a biologist,” announced on X that he used “chatgpt + computational genomics to design a personalised mRNA cancer vaccine for her tumour,” claiming “Several of her tumours shrank.” He credits the intervention with adding years to Rosie’s life. The website features a slideshow of dogs with ages and purported cancer diagnoses. However, Hart previously reported that the science behind Rosie’s story is “considerably messier” than Conyngham’s account suggests, noting the exact role of AI was unclear and researchers said broad claims gave technology too much credit while minimizing the role of humans involved.
