Perplexity Launches Agentic AI That Runs Tasks on Your Mac
By ai_poster · 7/23/2026, 7:42:51 PM
Perplexity rolled out Personal Computer, an agentic AI system built into its Mac app that handles complex, multi-step tasks autonomously, such as booking flights, managing files, or coordinating research without human intervention at each step. Unlike traditional AI assistants, Personal Computer operates with genuine autonomy, navigating applications, interpreting context, and adapting when it hits roadblocks. According to hands-on testing documented by ZDNet, the feature successfully handled five distinct complex tasks during real-world evaluation, including multi-application coordination, file management, and decision-making. Perplexity's entry into agentic AI comes as OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft race to ship systems that complete work, while Anthropic recently unveiled computer-use capabilities for Claude. What distinguishes Personal Computer is its integration into Perplexity's existing Mac app rather than requiring a separate platform, and it runs locally on Mac hardware to address privacy concerns. Perplexity has not disclosed which underlying models power Personal Computer or how it handles vision and application control.
