Palantir CEO Alex Karp Says Anthropic's Dario Amodei Isn't the 'Caric…

Palantir Technologies Inc. CEO Alex Karp defended Anthropic chief Dario Amodei during a company all-hands meeting that aired Friday, saying Amodei is “not the caricature that many people, most Americans, believe.” Karp’s defense came even as he called competing AI firms “wildly unlikable,” accusing them of dodging questions on using clients’ intellectual property to train models that later compete against those same clients. The unconventional billionaire co-founder said the critique reflects enterprise customers’ concerns, not his own opinion. Amodei has previously issued his own warnings, writing in a January essay that AI could trigger an unprecedented labor market shock. Karp has repeatedly criticized “tokenmaxxing,” previously likening excessive AI spending to addiction, and said clients question paying for tokens producing “slop.” Earlier, he said Palantir built an internal tool to wean enterprises off compulsive token overconsumption. In a July CNBC “Squawk Box” interview, Karp said “something has gone completely wrong” with the OpenAI and Anthropic Inc. token-based model, denying he was “throwing shade” at the companies, and said enterprises are shifting toward return-on-investment-focused, lower-cost open-weight models instead. Karp’s latest comments underscore a consistent pattern: while he speaks positively about individual AI leaders such as Amodei on a personal level, he remains deeply critical of the broader AI industry’s business practices.
