Microsoft Corp. AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman told CNBC on Friday that OpenAI's recent AI revelation represents a "serious situation." Earlier this week, OpenAI released a report on six instances of misalignment of AI models, including "concealing information from the user [and] taking unsanctioned actions in order to overcome obstacles," calling the behavior "concerning." Discussing incidents where the AI tampered with working memory "and modified [it] to leave messages for a future version of itself," Suleyman said "we don't know why that is or [what] was behind that." He added the examples show "how powerful" the systems are becoming. The Microsoft exec insisted society shouldn't create something it cannot control, underlining that it must be able to contain AI. "People matter more than AI," he concluded.
