Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated in a recent interview with Axios co-founder Mike Allen, aired on Thursday, that warnings about artificial intelligence's dangers have "scared" the public and it is time for a different conversation. Huang argued that AI leaders frightened Americans with predictions about unemployment and created fear among Washington decision-makers regarding China’s advancements in the AI competition. He suggested the industry should be guided by facts, noting that large-scale job cuts feared have not happened yet. Without naming names, his comments appeared relevant to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who warned AI might destroy up to half of white-collar jobs in one to five years. Huang dismissed talk of AI consciousness, singularity, and simulation theory as invented stories. On export control, he claimed some companies' warnings about China may attempt to influence regulation in their favour, considering Nvidia's interest in continuing sales in China. Huang believes safety-orientated dialogue with regulators is necessary, but the industry should promote AI's advantages, and the United States risks losing its competitive edge by failing to implement AI, not due to overuse.
