A new Pollfish survey of 1,250 U.S. adults conducted on behalf of Insuranceopedia found that patients of all ages are most likely to use ChatGPT for health insurance questions. ChatGPT is the most popular, with 28% of respondents preferring it, followed by 21.3% for Google's Gemini. Other tools lagged: 6.4% prefer Microsoft Copilot, 4% Meta AI, 2.3% Claude, and 1.6% Grok, with less than 1% preferring Perplexity or another tool. The survey showed that a fifth of people use AI to understand what their health plan covers, and another fifth use it to make sense of a medical bill or explanation of benefits. A quarter of respondents said AI has been a stand-in when they need medical advice but cannot afford to see a doctor. Additionally, a third of respondents said AI chatbots are better sources of insurance or medical information because they are constantly available, 30% said AI can explain concepts better than payer representatives, and 28% said AI chatbots are easier to contact than their insurers.
