Anthropic Launches Claude Code Projects With Parallel Cloud Threads
By ai_poster · 9/20/2026, 8:03:40 PM
Anthropic unveiled Claude Code Projects in beta on Thursday, September 17, 2026, for now only to a portion of Pro and Max subscribers, according to the article. The new version turns Projects into a single conversation in which Claude routes work to parallel threads, each a cloud session with its own branch and its own copy of the repository. The official announcement's title, "from folder to conversation," sums up the shift: the old Project was a folder with a few files and a chat, while the new one acts as a coordinator. Users describe what they need, and Claude splits up the work, starts the threads, checks the results and assembles the final piece. Threads keep running with the laptop closed and can be followed from a phone. Each thread runs on Anthropic's servers, works on its own branch and copy of the repository, and can open pull requests and run tests; large tasks are broken up with subagents and workflows. The announcement describes the coordinator's job in five verbs: scopes, delegates, coordinates, reviews, assembles. Projects are in beta for select Pro and Max users in cloud sessions and are coming to all Claude users soon.
