Qualcomm is in advanced negotiations to acquire Silicon Valley-based artificial intelligence infrastructure startup Modular Inc. in a deal valued at approximately $4 billion. The discussions, first reported by Bloomberg, point to an official announcement within the coming weeks. If finalized, the transaction vaults Modular’s valuation up from the $1.6 billion figure it commanded during a $250 million funding round less than a year ago. Founded in 2022 by Google veterans Chris Lattner and Tim Davis, Modular built a unified AI developer platform headlined by Mojo, a programming language combining Python’s syntax with C++ performance. The acquisition is part of a coordinated M&A campaign by Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon, alongside separate late-stage negotiations to buy AI hardware firm Tenstorrent for approximately $8 billion to $10 billion. Total M&A spend is upwards of $14 billion committed to end-to-end AI factories.
