Forbes 30 Under 30 honouree Kim Than, founder and CEO of Genius PR, says investors and hires are increasingly researching people using ChatGPT or other AI tools before speaking with them, forming opinions based on answers the subject didn’t write. Than told Inc. that whereas people previously “would probably look at your website, check your LinkedIn, maybe read a few articles about you, and then jump on a call,” they are now “doing their research much faster, often using ChatGPT or other AI tools.” The article notes that managing online reputation once largely meant worrying about what appeared when somebody Googled your name, with search giving people a list of links to piece together an impression, while AI can increasingly do the piecing together for them. It adds that AI is no longer just helping people find information but is increasingly helping form the first impression, with an investor possibly considering your company, a potential hire deciding whether you’re worth working for, or a customer wondering whether they can trust you.
