Smart speaker gets smarter with Gemini

Google's Google Home Speaker, a US$100 (RM415.31) device with deep integration of its Gemini AI platform, went on sale on June 25, with preorders beginning on June 17. The gadget was originally announced last fall alongside new Nest-branded smart cameras, and the hardware launch continues Google's quest to find new uses for its AI assistant throughout the home. Gemini has already rolled out to Google TV software. The speaker produces audio that outputs in all directions and is designed for natural, free-flowing exchanges with Gemini for Home, handling basics like music and reminders while allowing users to brainstorm, ask for recipes, and interrupt with follow-up questions. Google has been testing Gemini for Home since last October, with over 3.5 million homes having opted in and over 2,500 bug fixes and improvements made. The speaker is Google's first product to ship with the new experience onboard. A ring light glows when Gemini is listening, thinking, or responding. Two units can be paired with a Google TV Streamer for spatial audio, though this does not seamlessly work with televisions that have Google TV software built in. Nest camera owners can ask for summaries about home activity or make live requests.
