Accounting giant PwC has published four papers that are riddled with false AI-generated material, according to a new report by GPTZero, which makes AI-detection software. The four “thought leadership” papers, published between 2024 and 2026 by PwC Middle East, included unverifiable or patently false information. There was an 84 percent probability that PwC’s 2025 paper “Transforming Governance” was entirely AI-generated, rising to 100 percent when excluding the reference section. The paper, focusing on a PwC product called “Citizen Pulse”, claims it is being used by the governments of Denmark, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Australia, but no public information was found that the product was used, that any government deals took place, or that the product even exists. In the reference section, only 10 of 17 citations are numbered and correspond to footnotes. The other three papers also contain multiple fabricated claims, including conflated statistics and confidently asserted false correlations. One paper included a footnote with a URL containing a tag indicating the source was accessed via chatgpt.com. PwC Middle East said it takes the accuracy of its research “seriously” and was updating the false material.
