Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) Bengaluru inaugurated the IBM–MIT AI Lab – MAHE Intelligence GPU (MIG) on Monday at its Bengaluru campus, in collaboration with IBM. The centre houses a High-Performance Computing (HPC) facility and is designed to democratise access to Artificial Intelligence (AI), providing advanced AI computing resources, research infrastructure, and digital skilling opportunities to students, researchers, and institutions across India. Powered by advanced GPU-enabled computing infrastructure, the AI Lab will support research in machine learning, deep learning, generative AI, computer vision, natural language processing, cybersecurity, healthcare, intelligent systems and data analytics. The facility can simultaneously support 30 high-performance computing workloads. The lab is envisioned as a collaborative hub bridging academia and industry, supporting industry-sponsored projects, interdisciplinary research, faculty development programmes, student innovation, hackathons, internships, startup incubation and collaborative technology development. Prof. Madhu Veeraraghavan, Pro Vice Chancellor, MAHE Bengaluru, said AI must become an enabler for everyone, reflecting the lab's commitment to expanding access to AI education. Sandip Patel, Managing Director, IBM India and South Asia, said India has the talent and ecosystem to lead global AI innovation and that the collaboration strengthens India's AI research ecosystem.
