As of Sept. 16, 30.7% of Berkshire Hathaway's $365 billion public equities portfolio is invested in two artificial intelligence stocks under CEO Greg Abel, who became CEO at the start of this year. The first is Apple, Berkshire's largest holding, which the conglomerate first bought in the first quarter of 2016 and which has surged more than 1,000% in the past decade. On the Q1 2026 earnings call, then-CEO Tim Cook said there were more than 2.5 billion active Apple devices around the world, an all-time high, giving the company a physical distribution advantage for consumer adoption of AI. The iPhone posted 21.7% year-over-year sales growth last quarter (ended June 27) to $54.3 billion.
