ICON plc (NASDAQ: ICLR) announced a multi-year collaboration with Anthropic to bring Claude's AI capabilities across the clinical trial lifecycle, advancing ICON's digital innovation and AI strategy and building on Orbis, its secure, governed, agentic AI platform. ICON will work with Anthropic's Life Sciences research team to explore technologies that can accelerate innovation across clinical development. With Anthropic's support, ICON will develop four production capabilities within Orbis: site intelligence and study planning, powering OneSearch and OnePlan tools with frontier model reasoning; Orbis predictive intelligence for real-time detection of enrolment risks, trends and operational signals; protocol optimisation to reduce amendments and accelerate study startup; and ecosystem integration, allowing clients to access ICON's insights within Claude. ICON will deploy Claude through a targeted, role-based rollout: Claude Code for developers, Claude for knowledge teams, and Claude Science for scientific and clinical teams. The collaboration supports three foundational areas of ICON's AI strategy: strengthening the intelligence layer powering Orbis, driving productivity by automating high-volume activity, and developing domain-specific agents embedded within clinical development workflows. Barry Balfe, Chief Executive Officer of ICON plc, stated the company is determined to lead AI acceleration of clinical trials.
