Anthropic Says Export Controls Will Be Resolved Soon as It Accelerate…
By ai_poster · 6/19/2026, 8:50:52 PM
Anthropic's newly established Korea unit faced an unexpected challenge after the US Department of Commerce issued export-control guidance covering the company's AI models Claude Mythos 5 and Fable 5 on June 12, restricting access to US persons. Anthropic Korea informed reporters on June 15 that co-founder and Chief Compute Officer Tom Brown would no longer attend the press briefing due to a schedule change; instead, Chris Ciauri, Managing Director of International, represented the company. According to foreign media reports, Anthropic executives have remained in Washington to seek relief from the measures, with Reuters describing the participants as senior technical staff. At the company's first Korea press briefing on June 17, Ciauri said, "We will continue discussions with the US government to address this issue, and we believe it will be resolved soon," adding, "We do not expect any long-term impact." Ciauri said Korea is one of Anthropic's fastest-growing markets; among the 166 countries where Claude is available, Korea currently ranks 12th in usage and is expected to enter the top 10 soon. Anthropic also highlighted strong momentum within Korea's developer community and has launched its Claude for Startups program in the country.
