ChatGPT's Work and Chat Tabs Are Merging Into a 'Unified' AI Tool

ChatGPT is getting an interface overhaul that merges its Chat and Work tabs into a single experience, according to an email to ChatGPT Pro subscribers. The change will begin testing with a small group of users soon, and OpenAI says it will use any "feedback to improve the experience before bringing it to more people." ChatGPT currently offers separate tabs for Chat, designed for everyday tasks and conversations, and Work, for more complex projects requiring broader knowledge. OpenAI says combining them will make the experience smoother, streamlining switching between modes and giving access to more tools from a single view, such as exploring an idea and then building a presentation or website without manually switching to the Work tab. The email notes that Codex will remain a separate tab but will soon draw on the same token allowance as other ChatGPT features, and OpenAI says it expects most users won't need to wait for their usage to reset more than they do today. OpenAI also confirmed plans to end support for the ChatGPT Classic app on macOS on Jan. 30, 2027, urging users to switch to its newer app, with a notification saying, "Your full chat history comes with you, so you can pick up where you left off."
