Ex-Tesla Optimus Lead Secures $11 Million After Trade Secret Lawsuit;…
By ai_poster · 7/3/2026, 10:20:39 PM
In late June 2026, Silicon Valley humanoid robotics startup Proception, founded by former Tesla Optimus technical lead Jay Li, simultaneously announced a settlement with Tesla, the closing of an $11 million seed round, and the first commercial shipment of its ProHand dexterous hands. The seed round was led by First Round Capital, with backing from Y Combinator and BoxGroup. The saga began in June 2025, when Tesla filed a complaint in San Francisco federal court alleging that Li had downloaded confidential files related to the Optimus program onto personal devices before his departure and founded Proception six days after leaving. Tesla questioned how Proception could claim to have built an advanced dexterous hand in only five months, citing "striking similarities" to the version Li had helped design. Proception’s ProHand features 22 independent degrees of freedom with a multi-joint biomimetic finger design.
