I put ChatGPT on my Ray-Ban Meta glasses — and it completely changed …

I tested a hack that lets me use ChatGPT with my Ray-Ban Meta display glasses, freeing me from being locked into only using Meta AI. I used my iPhone as a bridge between the glasses' camera and ChatGPT, creating essentially ChatGPT with a pair of eyes. The setup involved the Ray-Ban camera sending images to the iPhone, which then sent them to ChatGPT, with responses coming through the glasses' speakers. Voice was easier to set up since the glasses connect to an iPhone over Bluetooth and can handle audio from apps, allowing me to hear ChatGPT's responses. Vision required more work, using Meta's Wearables Device Access Toolkit to let an iPhone app receive images from the glasses' first-person camera. I did not install ChatGPT directly on the Ray-Bans, and saying "Hey Meta" does not summon ChatGPT. The process is slower, with the iPhone doing much of the work, but it gets the job done. This experiment offers a glimpse at where ChatGPT is headed, as OpenAI is working with former Apple design chief Jony Ive on new AI hardware, with its first device reportedly a portable, screenless assistant with cameras and sensors.
