Microsoft has twice in 2026 silently deleted its own Windows 11 gaming memory recommendations, which had advised 32GB of RAM as ideal for demanding titles and heavy mods. The second deletion, reported by Windows Latest on August 5, removed a Learning Center document titled "How to optimize your gaming PC setup," published November 28, 2025, which described 32GB of RAM as "ideal for serious players who run the most demanding titles or use heavy mods" and directed readers toward Copilot+ PCs. The URL now redirects to the Learning Center's homepage with no explanation. The first deletion occurred in May 2026, removing a document that called 32GB RAM "the no-worries zone" for Windows 11 gaming. Neither removal came with a public statement, and Microsoft has not responded to media requests for comment. The deletions come as DRAM prices have climbed due to memory manufacturers—Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron—redirecting capacity toward High Bandwidth Memory for AI accelerators, with HBM modules selling for roughly $60 to $100 each compared to $5 to $10 for conventional DDR5. The company's own Surface hardware lineup is being restructured around memory configurations it had previously told consumers to move past.
