AI Is Changing the Capabilities—and Economics—of Employee Safety and …

A four-month Ernst & Young (EY) assessment evaluated the economic impact of deploying an AI-powered Preventative Personal Security (PPS) platform across a large workforce, concluding that organizations offering it could realize annual savings of approximately $181 per employee, increasing to as much as $280 per employee as awareness and adoption mature. EY notes its methodology is intentionally conservative and excludes several difficult-to-quantify sources of value, suggesting the full impact may be larger. The significance is that AI-powered PPS can now be evaluated as a business investment rather than merely a security expense or employee benefit. Traditional personal security focuses on responding after an incident, while AI-powered PPS aims to deter incidents, identify elevated risk before escalation, accelerate intervention, and reduce severity. These capabilities change the economics of employee safety by reducing direct costs such as medical expenses, legal claims, insurance losses, and operational disruption, while also improving productivity and reducing absenteeism. However, these outcomes depend on the platform's capabilities; generating measurable ROI requires more than a faster way to contact emergency services.
