Anthropic and Blackstone's joint venture, Ode, valued at $1.5 billion, focuses on integrating elite engineering teams within enterprises to maximize the value of AI, stressing that effective AI deployment relies more on implementation than model selection. Launched in May alongside Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman, Goldman Sachs, and other investors, Ode formally unveiled its brand and strategy this week, built around a 100-person team of forward-deployed engineers embedded inside enterprise clients. The venture was seeded by Blackstone's acquisition of Fractional AI, a startup that operated in an 11-month partnership with OpenAI before the deal closed; its co-founders, Chris Taylor and Eddie Siegel, now lead Ode as CEO and chief technologist. Taylor stated that enterprises need top-caliber applied AI talent to rewire core business processes, while Siegel compared model selection to choosing programming languages, arguing system engineering is the defining variable. Ode will operate under a "Claude-first" principle, defaulting to Anthropic's technology, but will use competing AI products when client requirements call for it.
